Out of all the classroom sessions for the HBS reunion, this lecture got the most accolades. It’s a not-to-be-missed opportunity to understand the political shifts we’ve seen over the last four years. We are honored to be joined by HBS Professor Rawi Abdelal, Herbert F. Johnson Professor of International Management, who will discuss globalization in the modern era.
Course Description: We are living through the second great era of globalization. The first era of globalization, circa 1870–1914, was destroyed by the geopolitics of a great power transition, armed conflict, and a populist backlash against free trade and multinational business. Today we are living through a great power transition, increased risk of armed conflict, and a populist backlash against free trade and multinational business. In this session, Professor Abdelal will explore the underlying causes of our increasingly fragile global system and discuss potential measures to save globalization from itself.
