Massachusetts Ballot Initiative Question 2: HKS Discusses Ranked Choice Voting

Voters from Massachusetts are faced with a ballot initiative that could fundamentally alter our political system. The measure would change elections in Massachusetts from plurality voting to ranked-choice voting (RCV) making political office arguably more accessible to a wider cross-section of interested candidates and making the outcome more reflective of the choices of the full electorate. Opponents argue that RCV is too confusing and won’t solve election problems.

Join Harvard Kennedy School Senior Practice Fellow in American Democracy, Miles Rapoport, as he dissects the policy implications of Ranked Choice Voting. Rapoport, a longtime organizer, policy advocate, and elected official led an HKS group event last year focused on Ranked Choice Voting in Maine.

He will be joined by George Pillsbury, board member for Massachusetts Ranked Choice Voting 2020 and founder and senior policy consultant with Nonprofit VOTE, who will talk about the campaign as it relates to Massachusetts. He will also be joined by Kyle Bailey, who serves as Campaign Manager for The Committee for Ranked Choice Voting and who organized the movement that won, protected and expanded Maine's first-in-the-nation Ranked Choice Voting law for primary, federal  and presidential elections.

Registration is free. Please sign up here and the meeting link will be shared within 24 hours. Date: Wednesday, Oct. 21. Time: 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
