Leadership Breakfast: Leadership Lessons from Community Organizing

Leadership requires mobilizing resources and one of our most important resources to mobilize is people.  Community organizers focus on developing relationships as a way to mobilize this powerful resource.  This experiential workshop will include an opportunity to practice how to do this.

Michael Jacoby Brown has worked as a community organizer and trainer for over 40 years, starting as a volunteer working with labor unions and community groups.  He has worked for The Vermont Alliance, Mass Fair Share, and the National Jobs with Peace Campaign, the Faith in Action Network and as a trainer, coach, mentor and consultant to numerous community, housing, labor, religious, health and political organizations.  He was the founder and Director of the Jewish Organizing Initiative (now JOIN).  He the author of Building Powerful Community Organizations, which has been used widely in college courses and by many grassroots groups.  He coordinates a monthly E-News, The Organizers Edge.  He has an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School and serves on the Board of the Union of Minority Neighborhoods.  www.MichaelJacobyBrown.com
