Harvard CAMLab TeaTalk: "Why do we drink tea?”

Harvard FAS Chinese Art Media Lab (CAMLab) Teahouse envisions tea as a cultural medium and creates a virtual space bridging conversation of art, history, and culture across time and space. In this tea universe, we bring together scholars, artists, and audiences interested in tea culture around the globe, using tea as an anchor to take the audience on a journey of historical and cultural exploration. We invite you to travel beyond the bowl of tea and transcend the role of a tea drinker, traversing in the world of Chinese tea traditions and embodying the human consciousness lying deep within. Enter this virtual space and unfold your personal ritual of tea.

In the first episode of CAMLab TeaTalk, we will facilitate an interdisciplinary dialogue of tea culture from the dynamic perspectives of academic research and artistic creation among two guest speakers in this virtual space. We invite everyone to taste this first cup of tea with our two special guest speakers and explore the simplest and most complicated question: "Why do we drink tea?”

Time: Sep 18, 2021 08:30 AM EST

Guest Speakers: Professor Cheng Pei-kai and dance artist Zhao Liang will provide their respective narratives of tea, from the history of tea culture and the artistic creations inspired by tea.
