Leadership Breakfast Meeting: Building Healthy Communities – What I have learned from 25 years of research and experience

Jim S. Gruber (MPA ’85) will discuss Building Healthy Communities – What I have learned from 25 years of research and experience.  He will draw from information and stories in his recent book, Building Community: Twelve Principles for a Healthy Future, New Society Publishers.

 Discussion questions include:

  1. From your experiences, how can building healthy local communities embrace and support democracy and justice?

  2. What do’s and don’ts have you learned in practicing leadership with local communities and local organizations?

  3. How do you confront “wicked or intractable problems” and help a community “go forth” to find their solutions?

 Jim is a Professor Emeritus of Environmental Studies at Antioch University.  He worked as a town manager, solar engineer, and consultant working with governments and NGOs in North America, Eastern Europe, South America, and Africa on environmental Issues and local governance.  He lives is Alstead, New Hampshire with his wife Patience and has a small winery and maple syrup business.
