Leadership Breakfast Meeting: Converting Challenges Associated with the Pandemic to Opportunities

Mohammad Haqmal, an award-winning senior international public health and health system innovation expert, will discuss:

 --Why thinking outbox is necessary to respond to any crisis.

--The skills necessary to enable any organization to identify the strategies to convert challenges Into opportunities.

--How the converted opportunities can be used to strengthen relevant systems. 

--Recent successful experiences in various developing countries that convert challenges associated with COVID19 into opportunities .

SPEAKER

Mohammad Haqmal has 18 years of experience in public health projects in South & Central Asia. He is a lecturer at the University of City London and research fellow at the University of Cambridge in the UK.  He has led projects in primary healthcare, including communicable disease,  and maternal and child health. He led the “Strengthening Mechanism Department” of the Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health from 2013-to 2017 where he managed the health service delivery projects for over six million people. He set up the district health system in Afghanistan in 2008-2012. In 2019 he was awarded the Public Health Hero award for the design and implementation of various community-based healthcare innovations such as the "Afghanistan Healthy Village Initiative "and the "Afghanistan $1 Project" to reduce maternal and child mortality. 

Dr Haqmal qualified as a medical doctor in Afghanistan in 2003. He has an MSc in Global Health and Development from University College London, an MPH from the University of Liverpool, an executive MBA from Preston University in Pakistan; and a Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from Afghanistan. 

Most recently, Dr. Haqmal designed various innovation strategies related to COVID-19 prevention and immunizations for hard-to-reach populations.  He is fluent in Pashto, Farsi, Arabic, and English.
